COYLE — In an effort to move more life-saving equipment to the community of Coyle, a heart defibrillator has been given to the community center.
Dave MacNeill, a board member of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation District No. 1 in Coyle, took delivery of the device last month.
Jefferson County Fire District No. 2 (Quilcene), which secured grant money for the defibrillator, will provide training to some residents to operate the device.
Defibrillators provide an electric shock to a patient’s chest that temporarily stops the heart and can restore normal heart rhythm in emergencies like heart attacks.
Portable units like the one given to the Coyle community cost around $2,000. Similar models are available for home use.
