EYE ON JEFFERSON: County to conduct hearing on shooting range law

The Jefferson County commissioners will conduct a pubic hearing on a draft ordinance on commercial shooting facilities in incorporated areas at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The night meeting will be in the Superior Court courtroom at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend. Public comment will e taken. Written comment can be provided to the commissioners until 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Commissioners will meet earlier on Monday at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the county courthouse.

At that morning meeting, commissioners will conduct a hearing on five Conservation Futures project applications. The hearing will be at 10:15 a.m.

Commissioners also will be briefed and possibly take action on a fee collection for the mandatory arbitration program.

At 11 .m., they will be briefed on the 2019-2024 Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• Amending resolution on longevity pay for exempt employees.

• Declaring certain property as surplus.

• Approval of a state grant for $75,000 in an agreement between the Shorelands Northwest Straits and the state Department of Ecology.

• Consideration of approval of the final plat to subdivide 8.97 acres into two lots off Walden Lane in Port Ludlow.

Port Townsend City Council

The Port Townsend City Council will hear an update on discussions on annexation into the East Jefferson Fire Rescue district, with no action taken, when it meets at 6:30 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council is expected to consider a memorandum of understanding on Oct. 15 and possibly placing a measure on the February ballot. A town hall meeting is set for Oct. 9 to gather public input on the proposed MOU and ballot proposition.

The council also on Monday will conduct public hearings on interim standards for street lighting and on interim land use regulations.

The council will consider appointing the Community Task Force on city manager recruitment, vacating a portion of Howard Street right of way and city sponsorship of the October Mini Maker Fair.

Other city committee meetings, which are in conference rooms at City Hall, 250 Madison St., unless otherwise noted are:

• Public Art Committee — 2 p.m. Monday, first-floor conference room.

• Historic Preservation Committee — 3 p.m. Tuesday, third-floor conference room.

• Arts Commission — 3 p.m. Wednesday, third-floor conference room.

• Non-motorized Transportation Advisory Board — 4:30 p.m. Thursday, first-floor conference room.

Fire District 3

Clallam County Fire District 3 commissioners will hear a service delivery study update when they meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

They will meet at 323 N. Fifth Ave., in Sequim.

The district covers the east side of Clallam County with a small portion in Jefferson County.

Jefferson PUD

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will conduct a public hearing on the 2019 draft budget when they meet at 5 p.m. Monday.

The meeting will be at Jefferson Transit Authority board room at 63 Four Corners Road.

The hearing will follow a presentation on the budget by PUD staff.

Joint city/county

Discussion on interlocal agreements concerning homelessness and affordable housing will be continued during a joint meeting of the county commissioners and the Port Townsend Ad Hoc Committee on Housing at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The special meeting will be in commissioners chambers in the Jefferson County Courthouse.
