PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Main Street Program’s annual Downtown Trick or Treat and Costume Parade starts at 4 p.m. today.
Water Street from Madison to Polk streets and downtown side streets will be closed to traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Costumed participants will gather at 3:45 p.m. for the parade at Water and Adams streets, near the Bank of America clock.
The parade will march down Water Street toward Polk Street.
After the parade, children can trick-or-treat merchants who display “Trick or Treat Here” signs on the way back up Water Street, Washington Street and streets in between.
Some 1,500 to 2,000 people routinely attend this event, the Port Townsend Main Street Program said on its website at www.ptmainstreet.org.
The event is for kindergartners through sixth-graders. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
The downtown celebration is sponsored by the Port Townsend Main Street Program and participating merchants.

Port Ludlow, Quilcene
In Port Ludlow, a “Trunk-a-Treat” event is set in the parking lot at Oak Bay Road and Marina View Drive from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Residents can bring their decorated vehicles to the celebration and come in costume. The event will be canceled if it rains.

In Quilcene, the community center at 294952 U.S. Highway 101 plans a Halloween party with a time-warp theme from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Free games, prizes, food, photos and more will be provided.
The Quilcene Fire Department will host a party and pumpkin-decorating contest from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 70 Herbert St.
Pumpkins will be provided for 25 children, with prizes and games. The winner of the contest will receive a ride home from school in a fire engine.
