Conservation district elections coming up

Candidate filing deadlines are in February for positions on the Clallam and Jefferson conservation districts’ boards.

The candidate filing deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 7 for a board supervisor seat on the Jefferson Conservation District board.

The candidate filing deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 13 for a three-year term of office on the Clallam Conservation District board. The seat now is held by Don Hatler.

Nominating petitions, signed by 25 or more voters registered in the county, must be submitted by the filing deadline for the candidate’s name to appear on the election ballot.

The Jefferson Conservation District election will be March 7. Polls will be open at 205 W. Patison St. in Port Hadlock from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Absentee ballots are available on request for eligible voters on or before 4 p.m. Feb. 14.

The Clallam Conservation District election will be March 13. Polls will be open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Armory Square Office Building, 228 W. First St., Suite H, Port Angeles.

Absentee ballots may be requested until 4 p.m. Feb. 20.

Registered voters who live within the conservation district boundary are eligible to vote.

Candidates must be registered voters residing in the conservation district.

An appointed position on each of the two boards also will expire in 2018.

Five positions comprise each board.

Each serves a three-year term of office without compensation.

Voters elect three of the positions. The Washington State Conservation Commission appoints the other two positions.

To be considered for appointment to the boards, an application for the position of appointed conservation district supervisor form must be received by the Washington State Conservation Commission by March 31.

Applicants for appointed positions do not have to live within the conservation district to apply.
