Concert to benefit animals

PORT TOWNSEND — Pianist Linda Gentille, a Las Vegas performer who toured with Liberace as a teen, will be the headline performer at the Benefit Concert for the Animals on Sunday.

The 3:30 p.m. concert will be in the Wheeler Theater at Fort Worden as part of the 74th annual Rhododendron Festival in Port Townsend.

Gentille will play a selection of Broadway show tunes and several ragtime numbers.

She has performed in nearly every major country in the world and has sold more than 5 million CDs.

Backing Gentille will be local musicians Chuck Easton on guitar and Tom Svornich on drums.

Concert tickets –which are $15 in advance or $20 at the door — include admission for two opening acts. Folk-rock band Rhythm Ride will be preceded by the Andy Mackie Foundation Performers.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit Second Chance Ranch of Jefferson County, an independent, nonprofit facility near Quilcene.

All artists performing at the Benefit Concert for the Animals are donating their time and talents. Gentille is an advocate of animal rescue charities, and the Rhythm Ride band is headed by singer-songwriter Dr. Jan Richards, a Chimacum veterinarian who specializes in farm animals such as horses and livestock.

Advance tickets may be purchased at several Port Townsend locations, including Bonita’s Four-Legged Friends pet supply store, Dream City Café, Quimper Sound Music, online at www.asecondchanceranch.org or by phoning Second Chance Ranch at 360-437-7769.
