‘Commendable, refreshing’ say port commissioners in giving top staffer 5% raise

PORT ANGELES — Port of Port Angeles commissioners Monday unanimously granted a 5 percent raise to Executive Director Jeff Robb and renewed his contract.

Robb, the former airports/marinas manager who was elevated to the top staff position in August 2009, will now be making $120,750 instead of the $115,000 annual salary he was given when promoted.

The raise will be retroactive to August.

Port Commissioner Jim McEntire, the Republican candidate for the state House of Representatives for the 24th District, Position 2, made the motion to give Robb the raise.

The motion was seconded by Commissioner John Calhoun and passed 3-0.

No other terms of Robb’s contract were changed in the one-year renewal.

“When he was hired, Jeff was a new executive director, and in his first contract, his salary might have been slightly below the norm for ports of this size,” Calhoun said while seconding the motion.

“He has demonstrated his capabilities and has pleased this commissioner.”

Dave Neupert, attorney for the port, said that in a previous meeting, Robb was given a favorable personnel review.

“I believe Jeff Robb was and remains an excellent pick for the executive director position,” McEntire said.

“He has exceeded all of my expectations in developing and redeveloping relationships with stakeholders and other governments.

“He brings a level of energy and enthusiasm and determination to his job that is both commendable and refreshing.”

Robb, who had managed the port’s two airports — including William R. Fairchild International Airport — and its marinas since 1999, replaced Bob McChesney as executive director last year.

McChesney left for the top position at the Port of Edmonds in May 2009.

Robb, a Sequim resident and North Olympic Peninsula native, did not comment on the raise Monday but signed the contract.

The contract also includes a $400-a-month car allowance and six months of pay if Robb is terminated but willing and able to perform his duties.
