Coffee shop to host new event; four writers to share work

SEQUIM — A brand-new literary event, open to writers and listeners, arrives at the Rainshadow Coffee Roasting Co. on Friday evening.

The Fourth Friday Readings, to fill the cafe at 157 W. Cedar St. in downtown Sequim, will blend featured writers with an open-mic section starting at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is free, and participants are invited to come early for coffee and snacks.

Friday’s debut reading brings together four writers of poetry and prose: Mary-Alice Boulter and Jim Fisher of Port Angeles, Gene Bradbury of Sequim and Sarah Zale of Port Townsend.

Boulter, an actor, costumer and social activist, has published her stories and poems in Vietnam magazine, Timberline, Tidepools and other journals and anthologies.

Children’s writer

Bradbury, who writes poetry, children’s stories and adult short fiction, recently self-published two children’s books.

Fisher, a Peninsula College English teacher who teaches an online course, is a writer whose work is informed by travels around the world with his wife, Ann.

Zale is the author of a poetry collection titled The Art of Folding, inspired by her travels to Israel and Palestine; her work also appears in the anthology Come Together, Imagine Peace.

Writers interested in reading during Friday’s open mic will be invited to put their names in to be drawn for a five-minute reading after the featured readers.

For details about this monthly gathering, email coordinator Ruth Marcus at Rmarcus@olypen.com or phone 360-681-2205.
