PORT ANGELES — Close contests in Clallam County’s general election races aren’t over yet.
County Auditor Cathy McKeown said Wednesday that her office will count more than 3,000 ballots today.
Results are scheduled to then be released and posted on the county’s Web site, www.clallam.net/Voting.
McKeown said she could not give a specific time when results would be released.
Those ballots were received through Friday, Nov. 4.
On Monday, the Auditor’s Office will count 7,080 ballots received on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
And on Nov. 18, staff will count 3,888 ballots received Wednesday and an estimated 1,700 ballots expected today that were postmarked by Nov. 8, the deadline for ballots to count in the general election.
McKeown said the staggered count was necessary to give office staff time to check signatures, and inspect and scan ballots.
In all, McKeown said that will bring the number of ballots cast in Tuesday’s general election to more than 29,000, representing about a 66 percent voter turnout.
