PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Undersheriff Rich Sill will continue enforcing laws in 2007, but they’ll be junk car ordinances, zoning regulations and critical-areas codes.
Sill was named as the county’s new code compliance officer Tuesday by Department of Community Development Director Rob Robertsen.
Sill will embark on the new job Jan. 2 but said he will spend some of his time helping Sheriff-elect Bill Benedict take over the department.
Benedict defeated incumbent Sheriff Joe Martin, who bid for re-election in the Nov. 7 general election, by nearly a 2-to-1 margin.
Robertsen, who also will leave office Dec. 31, said Tuesday he was “ecstatic” that Sill will fill the job.
Sill will join another former lawman, ex-Port Townsend police officer Tony Polizzi, who has worked as the county code enforcement field technician for about the past month.
John Miller, the newly elected community development director, declined to comment while he still is the executive director of the Lower Elwha Klallam tribe but said he looks forward to working with Robertsen on a smooth transition into the office.
