Clallam Transit service changes take effect Monday

PORT ANGELES — Clallam Transit service changes will take effect Monday.

Eight fixed routes will have expanded or modified service as the agency looks to improve efficiency and better serve its customers, Transit officials said.

The new bus schedule is available on the Clallam Transit website, www. clallamtransit.com.

More weekday options

Port Angeles commuters who ride the No. 24 Cherry Hill or No. 26 West Side buses will have more early morning and evening options on weekdays.

Trips were added to eliminate “deadheads,” where an out-of-service bus runs empty from the Clallam Transit headquarters at 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd. to The Gateway transit center in downtown Port Angeles, Operations Manager Steve Hopkins has said.

A weekday evening run is being added for the No. 14 Forks commuter.

The schedule for the Forks commuter is being adjusted to accommodate a three-year federal project to rehabilitate U.S. Highway 101 at Lake Crescent. The new schedule maintains connections to the No. 16 bus to Clallam Bay.

A midmorning trip is being added for the No. 10 Port Angeles-Joyce bus.

The No. 20 College/Medical Center bus will have hourly service to Melody Lane in east Port Angeles.

The No. 17 Forks shuttle will have more frequent service on weekdays.

The No. 30 Port Angeles-Sequim commuter will have additional trips in each direction on weekday mornings to create a 30-minute frequency throughout the day.

Service eliminations

Weekday service is being eliminated for the No. 15 bus from Forks to La Push. The Quileute tribe offers a free shuttle between Forks and La Push on weekdays.

The No. 15 will have expanded service on Saturdays.

Clallam Transit does not provide fixed route service on Sundays.

Meanwhile, the Clallam Transit board will consider approving a new route from Port Angeles to the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal when it gathers Monday.

The board will hold a public hearing on the proposed 75-mile “Strait Shot” route to Bainbridge Island at its meeting in Forks.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at Forks City Hall, 500 E. Division St.
