Clallam Sheriff’s Office to hold firearms safety courses in November

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office will hold two citizen firearms safety courses in November.

Preregistration is required. To register, contact Lorraine Shore at 360-417-2262 or lshore@co. clallam.wa.us.

The classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 4 and 18, at the Clallam County Courthouse Emergency Operations Center, 223 E. Fourth St.

Classes are limited to 12 students each.

The courses are designed to familiarize citizens with the use of firearms and firearm safety through the use of a firearms simulator.

The simulator utilizes firearms that have been converted to a laser system, which interact with its use of force and firearms simulation systems.

During the class, students will role-play a police officer confronting a shoot/no-shoot scenario.

This will provide a better understanding of situations law enforcement officers face in which split-second decisions are made, the Sheriff’s Office said.

To participate, those interested must consent to a background check and sign a release of liability form.

For more information, contact Shore at 360-417-2262 or lshore@co.clallam.wa.us.
