PORT ANGELES — Candidates for Clallam County sheriff will square off in a campaign forum sponsored by the Peninsula Daily News and Peninsula News Network tonight.
The public is invited to watch the appointed incumbent, Joe Martin, and his challengers — Soeren Poulsen and Lonnie Steele — answer questions from PNN anchor Dennis Bragg, PDN Executive Editor Rex Wilson and PDN Commentary Page Editor Paul Gottlieb.
Tonight’s forum runs from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the county commissioners hearing room — Room 160 — in the Clallam County Courthouse.
There is plenty of public seating available.
The forum will be broadcast on PNN (Wave cable channel 3) at 7 p.m. Thursday and is tentatively scheduled to be repeated the following week and some time after Labor Day. Times will be announced.
The three sheriff’s candidates are on the Sept. 14 primary election ballot.
The two top vote-getters will go to the Nov. 2 general election.
Voter guide Sunday
Elections in Clallam County are mail-only. There is no voting at polls.
Mail-in ballots will be sent today to all registered voters.
Voters will get separate ballot for each party (Democratic, Republican or Libertarian) that contains all partisan races as well as all of the nonpartisan races and issues.
A separate nonpartisan ballot will also be provided to voters.
Voters will be asked to select one of the partisan ballots, or the nonpartisan ballot if they do not wish to vote on a partisan ballot.
The Peninsula Daily News will publish a Clallam County Primary Election Voters’ Guide this Sunday.
It will spotlight the sheriff’s race, a 63 percent levy increase request that is on the ballot for Sequim-area Fire District 3 residents — and the statewide races that will be decided Sept. 14.

In addition, the state Supreme Court and Court of Appeal races will be spotlighted in the Washington Judicial Voter Pamphlet that will be included with the PDN on Monday.
