OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — The Canyon Creek Shelter, commonly referred to as the Sol Duc Falls shelter, was damaged this month when a tree fell on a portion of the building.
Park officials plan to repair the historic shelter, but have yet to develop a timeline for the work.
“Luckily, it will be a relatively minor repair,” spokeswoman Barb Maynes said Wednesday. “The integrity of the building has not been affected.”
Because the tree that fell on the shelter was rotten, it was not as heavy as other, healthier trees, she said. She said that may have prevented severe damage.
Only a portion of the roof and one log in the sidewall near the roof are damaged, she said.
