Clallam: Search for new county treasurer narrowed to three finalists

The search for an appointed Clallam County treasurer was narrowed to three finalists Friday.

A special screening committee recommended to county commissioners Beth Loveridge, former investments manager for two large Texas cities, Judith Scott, the current deputy Clallam County treasurer, and Duane Wolfe, former Port Angeles city finance director and treasurer.

One of them will likely be appointed to replace retiring Treasurer Ruth Gerdon, leaves midterm at the end of next month.

The screening committee that included County Administrator Dan Engelbertson and representatives of the city of Port Angeles, Port Angeles School District and First Federal Savings & Loan Association narrowed the list from the five who applied for the position.

One of those eliminated was Diane Haffner, who opposed Gerdon in the 2002 election, losing by about 40 percent.

Also eliminated was Darryl Wolfe of Port Angeles, a construction cost estimator and no relation to Duane Wolfe.

Interviews in December

County commissioners are expected to interview Loveridge, Scott and Wolfe next month and appoint Gerdon’s successor in early January.
