Clallam: PUD approves 3% power rate cut

PORT ANGELES — A 3 percent across-the-board cut in power rates approved Monday could mean almost $3 a month less on Clallam County Public Utility District customers’ bills beginning in April.

The cut applies only to the energy charge portion of the bill, not the basic customer fee or demand charge.

It includes the utility’s yard lighting, residential, commercial, large power and schools rates.

Residential and commercial customers and schools will see their energy charges drop from 6.4 cents per kilowatt hour to 6.2 cents.

Based on an average use of 1,460 kilowatt hours per month, that would mean savings of $2.92.

Large power users will see their energy charge drop 3.72 cents per kilowatt hour to 3.61 cents.

Yard lighting customers will have their energy charge reduced 27.5 cents per day to 27.1 cents per day for 100-watts of unmetered usage and from 55.3 cents per day to 54.5 cents per day for 200 watts of unmetered usage.

The Bonneville Power Administration reviews its rates every six months and adjusts them depending upon power costs. Bonneville supplies 99 percent of the PUD’s power, up from 85 percent in previous years.
