ELLENSBURG — Clallam County personnel are among those who are searching a remote area near Ellensburg this weekend for evidence related to the disappearance and death of a girl in 2009.
The Daily Record of Ellensburg reported Friday that about 240 people from around the region would join the search of a 2-mile area — described as steep, heavily forested and with large cliffs and ravines — about 20 miles west of Ellensburg.
An initial search was conducted last fall before the first snowfall after skeletal remains were found by a hunter, the newspaper said.
DNA testing identified them to be those of Lindsey Baum, a 10-year-old girl last seen June 26, 2009, in McCleary, west of Olympia, on her way home from a friend’s house.
This weekend’s search will involve personnel from 17 counties across the state, including Clallam, King, Chelan, Mason, Yakima, Spokane, Ferry, Whatcom, Snohomish, Klickitat, Pierce, Thurston, Cowlitz, Clark, Grays Harbor and Walla Walla counties, and the Mountain Wave Search and Rescue team from the Portland, Ore., area.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office is working in conjunction with the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office and the FBI continue to lead the investigation into Baum’s disappearance.
