The Clallam County Auditor’s Office by Thursday received 11,075 of 40,196 ballots mailed out to voters for Tuesday’s general election.
That amounts to 27.55 percent of mail-in ballots returned, said Auditor Cathleen McKeown.
That compares with 34.46 percent mailed in during by the same day in the 2002 general election, she said.
McKeown said Election Night on Tuesday will recollect years past when election workers John Hubbard and Linda Snyder posted results by precinct at the Clallam County Courthouse, 224 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
McKeown said the Election Night results system changed when she switched to all-mail balloting.
“No longer is there the suspense and camaraderie that existed before the change,” she said. “This year we’d like to bring back the ambiance of a community event.”
Ballots will be counted at the courthouse beginning at 8 p.m., she said.
