PORT ANGELES — Nine people who authorities say are part of a statewide drug operation have been released from jail but may face future criminal charges.
Investigators are still sifting through evidence seized during a coordinated search in six counties over the weekend.
It is premature to file charges against the suspects, Clallam County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Dick Suryan said Wednesday.
The eight suspects appeared Wednesday before Judge George L. Wood in Clallam County Superior Court and were released after prosecutors failed to file charges within 72 hours of their arrests.
A ninth person, Mark Engman, turned himself into authorities at the hearing and was also released.
