Clallam: Investigators probe card thefts

A sheriff’s investigation is continuing after an Oregon man was arrested for allegedly stealing credit cards and checks from numerous mailboxes in rural Clallam County.

Mitchell John Hollowell, 38, was taken into custody Saturday at 256665 U.S. Highway 101, east of Port Angeles, after deputies identified him as their primary suspect in the rash of recent mail thefts, Chief Deputy Fred DeFrang said.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have come in contact with Hollowell to call detectives at 360-417-2544.

“We suspect there are multiple victims,” DeFrang said.

“He had several stolen credit cards in his possession at the time of his arrest.”

Sheriff’s detectives said they recovered stolen credit cards and checks as well as merchandise allegedly purchased with the cards.

“The largest single theft we’ve recovered so far is about $2,000 worth of Streetjammer electric scooters,” DeFrang said.
