Gubernatorial candidate Ron Sims visited the North Olympic Peninsula over the weekend to tout his plans for tax reform and economic growth.
“I have one goal for Port Angeles,” Sims told a small gathering at Joshua’s Restaurant on Saturday night.
“I want to see people here employed.”
Sims, a Democrat and King County executive, is running against fellow Democrat Christine Gregoire and four other candidates on the party’s ticket for the Democratic nomination in the Sept. 14 primary election.
On Saturday, he met with people in Forks and at Makah Days in Neah Bay before hosting the gathering in Port Angeles on Saturday evening with a handful of supporters and members of the news media.
The heart of Sims’ plans for improving the state’s education, transportation, health care and employment lies in his tax reform proposal, which he says would bring more money for the state.
Sims’ plan would eliminate the state’s business and occupation tax and the state’s portion of the sales tax, while enacting a progressive state income tax and offering a property tax exemption for homeowners.
