Clallam gets four bids for Third Street roof project

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County commissioners Tuesday opened bids from four out-of-town contractors to re-roof the Third Street Professional Building at 111 E. Third St. in Port Angeles.

The bids were referred to the county Parks, Fair and Facilities Department for an analysis and recommendation back to the board.

Clallam County moved the public health division of its Health and Human Services department into the Third Street building north of Safeway in 2010.

Axiom Division 7 of Lynden was the low bidder, with a base amount of $91,900.

John Lupo Construction of Aberdeen submitted a $164,555 bid, while Snyder Roofing of Snohomish bid $173,350 and Tri Star Roofing of Ravensdale bid $206,246.

The Third Street Professional Building has office space for 13 county staffers, an interview office, two exam rooms and two woman-infant child rooms.

Commissioners also signed an agreement with the state Department of Social and Health Services to evaluate children with special health care needs whose families may be eligible for Work First, a state-run temporary cash-assistance program for low-income families.

The county Health and Human Services department will evaluate family situations on behalf of the state at $325 per evaluation and $225 for each follow-up.

The maximum contract amount is $3,250.

Clallam County Health and Human Services Director Iva Burks said the county gets only about two referrals from the state per year.
