Clallam County and the city of Forks may join forces to double the size of the Forks jail and ease overcrowding in the county jail in Port Angeles.
Clallam County commissioners Monday co-signed a grant application for state funding of the jail.
Under the terms of the grant the city of Forks won’t have to provide any money for the lockup. The county, however, would put up $250,000 in capital funding.
In return the county will be guaranteed the use of 10 beds in the new jail for five years.
Forks Police Chief Mike Powell said the county would be paying about half the cost of renting 10 beds for five years.
