Clallam County to count ballots today

Today, the Clallam County Auditor’s Office will count more than 3,000 ballots received in Tuesday’s general election.

The office will count the 3,591 ballots that were received Tuesday by 4:30 p.m. today, said Auditor Patty Rosand.

53.63% turnout

An additional 3,131 ballots came in Wednesday, pushing the voter turnout in Clallam County to 53.63 percent, with 24,526 ballots returned out of 45,734 issued to registered voters, Rosand said.

“I am thrilled to see the voter turnout pick up in the final days of voting,” Rosand said.

“Voters took their time and voted carefully.”

The ballots received Wednesday will be counted by 4:30 p.m. Monday, Rosand said.

The ballots that come in today will include the final pickup of the Sequim and Forks drop boxes.

Those ballots will be counted by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rosand said.

‘Additional time’

“When we receive large sums of ballots, it takes additional time to check signatures, open, examine and count the ballots,” Rosand said.

“We are working to make sure that every ballot is handled with the utmost care and counted accurately.”

The office will be closed Friday for Veterans Day.

The election will be certified Nov. 29 by the Clallam County Canvassing Board.
