Clallam County Sheriff’s Office chain gang busy clearing roadways

PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office Chain Gang picked up 80 pounds of roadway litter along a quarter mile of Weel Road during the week of Aug. 5-8.

Crew members picked up 120 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Elwha River Road, 100 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on state Highway 112, 600 pounds of litter from three illegal dumpsites on Joyce Piedmont Road, 50 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on east U.S. Highway 101, 110 pounds of litter from an illegal dumpsite on Fish Hatchery Road and 1100 pounds of litter from five illegal dumpsites on Taylor Cut-off Road.

Crew members also washed the trailer and CG-5 for the county fair.

Crew members assisted the county Roads Division by weeding and mulching at the Deer Park Rest Area.

Crew members trimmed weeds along 4,983 feet of guardrails along Frontier Street, Edgewood Drive and Sekiu River, Charlie Creek, Clallam Bay Prison, Whiskey Creek, Peters and Elwha River roads.

Crew members also picked up and disposed of a dead deer on McCarver Street.

So far this year the chain gang has cleaned 143.25 miles of roadway, picked up 7,870 pounds of roadside litter, picked up 143,590 pounds of illegal dumpsite litter, trimmed 94,358 feet of guardrail and pulled or sprayed approximately 31,580 Scotch broom plants.

For the forest service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned 11.1 miles of forest service roads or trails.
