Shown in 2014 when it was known as the KONP Home Show

Clallam County Home and Lifestyle Show is today, Sunday in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The 2015 Clallam County Home and Lifestyle Show is the new name for a North Olympic Peninsula favorite.

The annual extravaganza — formerly known as the KONP Home Show — remains a free-admission two-day bazaar of contractors and suppliers, service providers and recreational vendors.

Doors at the Port Angeles High School gymnasium, 304 E. Park Ave., will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“We made the decision to change the name because it’s not just a home show,” said Stan Comeau, KONP sales manager.

“It includes exhibits on many different facets of life and living on the North Olympic Peninsula.”

Prep for spring, summer

Sponsored by KONP 1450 AM and 101.7 FM and the Clallam County Public Utility District, the Home and Lifestyle Show is a showplace for Peninsula and visiting businesses and organizations to display their services and for prospective customers to gather information for spring and summer plans.

Parking will be available in the student parking lots on the 200 and 300 blocks of East Park Avenue. A free shuttle will take visitors from parking areas to the gym.

In addition to a new name, the date for the show was moved back from a late February weekend to the second weekend in March to reduce the chances of bad weather during the show weekend, Comeau said.

“For the last two years, we have had snow during the Home Show weekend,” he said.

Both very bad weather and very good weather decrease show attendance, he added.

If there is very bad weather, people stay home, and if there is very good weather, they are out and about, Comeau said.

He said the forecast is just about perfect for visitors to turn out for the show this year.

The National Weather Service predicts rain and showers with daytime temperatures in the low 50s.

150 booth spaces

Out of 150 booth spaces, 148 were reserved by Wednesday morning, the upper mezzanines were full and several outdoor booths were reserved in front of the gymnasium, Comeau said.

Booths are taken by 123 businesses and organizations, with some participants using more than one booth for their display.

“At least 25 of them are new to the show,” Comeau said.

Turnover keeps the show fresh each year with different items for visitors to peruse.

“I am confident everyone will find something they will be interested in,” he said.

Comeau said many of the exhibitors will have free samples, small gifts or drawings that visitors can enter.

Power Trip Energy of Port Townsend will offer two free “Spin Your Meter Backwards with Solar” workshops during the show.

The workshops will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The 34-year show attracts between 7,000 and 10,000 visitors annually.
