PORT ANGELES — You can’t keep ’em down on the farm, not when it’s time for the Clallam County Fair.
Rather, the rustic miracles of the region’s dwindling rural culture are displayed for everyone to see.
Starting today and lasting through Sunday, city kids can discover what farm-bred folks have known all along: Chickens lay eggs. Cows give milk. Sheep make sweaters.
And once you’ve toured the livestock barns, admired the homemaker’s creations, and examined the flower arranging, driftwood sculpting, crocheting and quilting, there’s all that food that would never taste as good if you didn’t eat it on the midway.
The Clallam County Fairgrounds are at 1608 W. 16th St., in Port Angeles.
Daily admission prices are $7.50 for adults, $5.50 for those 62 and older as well as students 13 to 17 years old, $4.50 for children 6 to 12 years old, and free for children 5 and younger who are accompanied by adults.
Today, admission to the fair is free for children 12 and younger until 6 p.m. Kid-friendly events include:
* Children’s activities at 1 p.m. in the 4-H Building
* Sourdough Slim at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and Hatified Magic at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., both on the Wilder Auto Community (West) Stage
* The Sunshine Generation at 11:30 a.m., and hypnotist Mike Mezmer at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., both at the Sunny Farms (Center) Stage
* The Wenatchee Youth Circus at 5 and 7 p.m. in the grandstand.

* 10 a.m.: 4-H poultry fitting and showing; 4-H/FFA pygmy dairy goat fitting, showing and type

The blacksmith, art and still life demonstrations, children’s activities and goat milking will continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
