PORT ANGELES — Organizers for the Clallam County Fair set their attendance goal for this year’s celebration of the rural life at 32,000 and the fair manager said she thinks that by today’s end, the fair is likely to have made its goal.
The figure of 32,000 represents a slight increase over last year’s 30,000.
Fair Manager Kathy Roemer said Saturday that this year’s fair may make the goal.
The first day of the fair, Thursday, saw 9,255 people pass through the gates, she said, topping last year’s 7,000, Roemer said.
“We’re just asking for a couple extra thousand, and if it stays like Thursday, we might get it,” she said.
Attendance numbers for Friday and Saturday were not available.
Roemer said the weather helped bring the crowds to the fair.
“We couldn’t have asked for better weather,” she said.
Among the notable events at the fair was Pig Barn Superintendent Bob Cristion being awarded a black and white ribbon from the state Fairs Commission.
Roemer said the fair couldn’t have happened without its volunteers.
“The community comes together and puts their heart and soul into this place,” Roemer said.
