FORKS — A proposed levy for Clallam County Fire District 1 — which has 2,654 voters in Clallam County and just 17 in Jefferson County — looked to be passing by a narrow margin on Election Night.
The levy measure, called Proposition 1 in the fire district, had 269 Clallam County votes to approve it plus three Jefferson County voters for it.
Casting ballots to reject it were 227 voters in Clallam and four in Jefferson.
If it passes, the measure will levy 75 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation on property owners in 2016. It would add $112.50 in property tax on a $150,000 home.
It would also authorize annual increases of up to 3 percent for each of the next five years to fund a paid District 1 fire chief position and maintain or increase staffing and service levels there.
