Clallam County Drug Court wins two grants

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County’s drug court, which promotes rehabilitation over incarceration for drug users, has been awarded two grants totaling $129,750.

The grants were established through the Legislature’s 2002 Sentencing Reform Bill 2338, which revised the prison sentences for certain offenders to save tax dollars.

That money was then set aside to provide treatment funds for offenders convicted of nonviolent drug crimes.

Clallam County received the highest scores in its applications for both grants, said Preston Kayes, county Drug Court coordinator.
