PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Commissioner Steve Tharinger and his challenger, Sue Forde, faced off Wednesday in their first candidate forum voicing opinions on county regulations, the Olympic Discovery Trail and the role of government.
Tharinger, D-Dungeness, touted his record of teamwork and accomplishments on the Board of Commissioners in the last three years, while Forde, a Republican, said she plans to bring “a fresh new approach and balance to representing the wishes of the people.”
Tharinger, 53, is seeking his second four-year term as commissioner for District 1, representing the east end of the county.
Forde, 56, who owns a Web site design company and has been managing editor of Citizen Review Online covering local and statewide issues, is making her first bid at the position.
Wednesday’s forum took place at the weekly Port Angeles Rotary Club meeting at the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant.
