Clallam: Commissioners may need to trim up to $1.2 million from budget

Clallam County commissioners may have to cut services and positions to trim between $826,000 and $1.2 million from the 2003 budget.

That was the essence of County Administrator Dan Engelbertson’s 2003 budget message delivered Monday to commissioners and county employees during a series of meetings.

Engelbertson said he expects this to be a tough budget season for the county.

“I think it’s going to be tough to get through without employee layoffs,” Engelbertson said.

Engelbertson recommended against using reserve funds to balance next year’s estimated budget of nearly $57 million, which is 2.5 percent below the 2002 adopted budget.

“I don’t see our revenue shortfall being a short-term situation,” Engelbertson said in recommending against spending reserves to balance the budget.
