CLALLAM BAY — In Friday’s dark, early morning hours, near a trailer with no electricity, events supposedly transpired with a black bear leaving authorities, well, clawing at thin air.
“Something happened,” state Fish and Wildlife Department Sgt. Larry Baker said Saturday. “(But) we can’t confirm or deny the presence of a bear.”
A man called 9-1-1 at 3:38 a.m. Friday and told an emergency dispatcher he had been attacked by a bear at his home.
His hand was bleeding, he said, so a medical team was dispatched to treat his injuries, Baker said.
Medics arrived at PB’s Pizza — the mini-mart and Texaco gas station at 17203 Highway 112 in Clallam Bay where the man had called from — and treated his hand, which was bandaged by the time a Fish and Wildlife officer arrived, Baker said.
