Clallam: Bail set at $150,000 for mail-theft suspect

PORT ANGELES — A 38-year-old man accused in a spree of mail thefts to get credit cards and checks remains in custody after a judge set bail at $150,000 cash Monday.

Mitchell Lee Hollowell, who came here from Oregon, was arrested Saturday after sheriff’s detectives tracked him down to a residence at 256665 U.S. Highway 101.

Hollowell’s next appearance will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Superior Court.

Prosecutors have until then to prepare formal charges.

Detectives are asking for anyone with information pertaining to this investigation to call them at (360) 417-2256.

During Hollowell’s bail hearing in Superior Court on Monday before a visiting judge, Thomas J. Majan, Fontenot testified that deputies with a search warrant for Hollowell’s home turned up Streetjammer electric scooters as well as letters and credit cards that had the names of local mail theft victims.

Hollowell had several of the credit cards on him in a Altoids mint tin, Fontenot said.
