Chimacum: Holiday feast attracts about 200

CHIMACUM — Nobody left the Tri-Area Community Center hungry Thursday.

How could they?

The inviting smell of turkey, ham, biscuits and all the trimmings wafted through the air — as they have in Jefferson County on Thanksgiving for the past decade.

Throw out visions of a mediocre dinner prepared to be fast and cheap.

Volunteer chef Randy Unbedacht of Randall’s Catering in Port Townsend “saved the day,” organizer Linda Haskell said Thursday.

Unbedacht and other volunteers prepared 20 turkeys, eight hams, 50 pies and 100 pounds of potatoes to feed an estimated 200 people for Thanksgiving.

All the food was donated, Haskell said.

Giant letters P and A were carved out and lined with bricks. The project was led by the Rider Crew, led by Adam Logan, and the Interact Club, with Angie Gooding as the advisor. More than 100 students were enthusiastically involved, and they intend to continue the work next week. Port Angeles School District Superintendent Marty Brewer attended also. Trees were donated by the Clallam County Conservation Society. Landscaping was designed by a student, Scarlett Fulton. (Dave Logan/for Peninsula Daily News)
