CHIMACUM — Friends of the family of a Chimacum High School junior killed in a crash April 30 are planning an auction to help the family pay for expenses related to the teen-ager’s death.
The event will be Saturday at the Chimacum High School commons, 91 W. Valley Road.
A silent auction will start at 2 p.m. Big-ticket items go up for live bid at 4 p.m.
So far more than 100 items have been donated, according to Debbie Abercrombie, the Kench family friend spearheading the event.
“I’ve been involved in a lot of fund-raising and never had the response I’ve had with this one,” Abercrombie said Tuesday.
“The generosity of the community has been overwhelming,”
Abercrombie, who lives on Marrowstone Island, went door-to-door in Port Townsend recently seeking donations for the auction. Out of 60 places, she said was turned down only twice.
