PORT ANGELES – Clallam County charter review commissioners met Friday to patch the crack they made in election law, endangering results on proposed charter changes in the current election.
On Monday, they will forward to the county auditor the text of five proposed charter changes that voters will decide by Tuesday night.
And should any of those results be challenged successfully, they arranged to put them to voters again in November 2008.
Charter commissioners registered the ballot questions – also known as ballot titles – with Auditor Patty Rosand.
They neglected to register the actual text of the changes, a violation of the charter itself.
Mark Nichols, deputy county prosecuting attorney, said the Monday action probably would be sufficient to safeguard Tuesday’s results because the oversight did not prejudice voters for or against the changes.
