PORT ANGELES — Multiple charges, including one count each of burglary and robbery, have been filed against Steven Dean Goodman, a Port Angeles man police are seeking in connection with a July 21 home burglary on Cherry Street.
Additionally, two new charges are likely for Roxanne Rae Venske, 24, who is thought to have driven Goodman and Matthew Tyler Charles, 27, from the site in a burgundy Pontiac Grand Am the morning of the break-in.
Charged this week
Goodman, 24, was charged this week with two counts each of theft of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, and one count each of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary, according to John Troberg, deputy Clallam County prosecuting attorney.
Brian Smith, deputy Port Angeles police chief, said in an email Tuesday that detectives continue to follow leads in the search for Goodman.
Arrest warrant
The charges allowed an arrest warrant related to the burglary to be filed against Goodman, Troberg said.
Goodman also has an active state Department of Corrections warrant out for his arrest, Troberg added.
Troberg said he also intends to charge Venske with one count each of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and unlawful imprisonment, after already charging her with one count of first-degree burglary as an alleged accomplice.
Troberg said the unlawful imprisonment and eluding charges stem from additional information received from law enforcement as the investigation progressed.
This information includes reports of Venske refusing to stop driving the burgundy Pontiac on July 21 despite repeatedly being asked to by a passenger who was not involved in the burglary, Troberg said.
Police accounts
Charles and Goodman allegedly stole a rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and about $150 in cash from the Cherry Street home, according to police accounts.
Charles and Venske were arrested at about 9 p.m. July 21 after they were found together in the 1400 block of Dan Kelly Road in west Port Angeles.
The arrests followed a car chase between Port Angeles and Lower Elwha Klallam police officers and a burgundy Pontiac Grand Am matching the one in which Venske reportedly was seen driving Charles and Goodman away from the Cherry Street home.
The car was found damaged and abandoned near the end of Colville Road, and multiple law enforcement agencies participated in a multi-hour search for the suspects in unincorporated Clallam County south of state Highway 112 and west of the Elwha River.
Charles and Venske are set to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Clallam Count Superior Court.
Both remained in the Clallam County jail Tuesday, Charles in lieu of $250,000 bond and Venske in lieu of $25,000 bond and $10,000 bail.
Goodman is described as 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds. He has blue eyes and light-colored hair.
