Ceremony to honor Vietnam veterans set for Sunday

Commemoration planned in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A Vietnam Veteran Commemorative Ceremony is slated for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clallam County Veterans Center, 216 Francis St., Port Angeles.

A similar ceremony at the center was scheduled for March but was canceled for community health reasons.

“We had to cancel the March ceremony, but we are proceeding with an outdoor ceremony with social distancing and masks,” said Judy Tordini of the Michael Trebert Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution.

“Unfortunately, some of these veterans are dying, and we need to proceed and honor them.”

The event includes:

• Flag line by the Michael Trebert Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution.

• Welcome from Judy Tordini of the Michael Trebert Chapter.

• National anthem by Amanda Bacon of KONP/KSTI/KZSQ.

• Opening prayer from Mike Lilley of American Legion Post 29.

• Flag folding by the American Legion Riders.

• “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes by Rickey McKenzie, USCG (Ret.).

• Rifle salute and taps by the Marine Corps League.

• Message to veterans from Clallam County commissioner Randy Johnson.

• Presentation of lapel pins from Gary Velie, Clallam County Veterans Association president.

• Presentation of certificates from Melody Albertson and Ginny Wagner of Michael Trebert Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution.

“We thank and honor our Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the nation,” event organizers said this week.

The event is sponsored by the Clallam County Veterans Association and Michael Trebert Chapter-Daughters of the American Revolution.
