Ceremonies to open two Sequim walkways Tuesday

SEQUIM — Two pedestrian walkways will be dedicated with ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Tuesday.

The first will be at 10 a.m. to celebrate the opening of a new pedestrian pathway along Brackett Road.

The ceremony will be on the pathway just west of the Vintage Apartments, 1009 Brackett Road.

The city of Sequim built the pathway to provide pedestrians with safer access to the Walmart store across Priest Road.

Lakeside Industries began construction of the pathway Dec. 12, and completed the job Dec. 14.

The project was made possible by a $20,000 donation from Walmart to the city of Sequim.

The second ribbon-cutting will be at 2:30 p.m. for a new sidewalk on Third Avenue between Spruce and Fir streets.

The ceremony will take place on the sidewalk on the north side of Fir Street.

The 450 feet of sidewalk connects the existing sidewalk on the east side of Fir Street to the Sequim elementary and high school grounds.

C&J Excavating was the contractor for the $55,000 project, which was funded by the Transportation Benefit District sales tax approved by voters in 2009.
