PORT ANGELES — Sarina Carrizosa, who became Port Angeles interim finance director last November, has had the interim label removed from her job title.

Carrizosa, 33, has been promoted to finance director to oversee the city’s finances, City Manager Nathan West announced Friday .

She will serve as chief financial advisor to the city manager and the elected City Council.

Carrizosa will oversee the 12-member Finance Department involving financial and debt management, accounting, budget and financial planning, treasury and the 10-member customer services staff for utilities and other payments.

“Sarina has proven to be financially responsible in oversight of the city’s budget, capital facilities plan and comprehensive annual financial report,” West said in a press release.

“She has logged hundreds of hours as acting and interim finance director, successfully overseeing the department while the position remained vacant.”

As interim finance director, Carrizosa helped develop a balanced $115.4 million total budget for 2019 that includes a balanced $20 million budget for the city’s general fund.

“Sarina has demonstrated a high level of leadership in the Finance Department and illustrated the capability to be a strong contributing member to the city leadership team,” West said.

Carrizosa began working for the city as a financial and management analyst in June 2014.

She was promoted to senior accountant in April 2016, interim finance director last November and finance director last Thursday .

“I’m excited for the opportunity,” Carrizosa said Monday.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the really great team that we have.”

Carrizosa said her goals are to be transparent and continue to work to make the city’s financial documents as easy to understand as possible.

She and her family live in Clallam County.
