CARLSBORG — Eight-year-old Kris Lawrence has never been aboard a train.
Like most children his age, the limited knowledge of locomotives and railroads he posssess is derived from what he saw on television or read in books.
“But, I still love trains,”‘ the Sequim youngster said Saturday as he wandered through the model railroad layouts and accessories on display at the Olympic Peninsula Railroaders’ first train show and swap meet.
People of all ages revealed their youthful fascination with trains during the first session of the two-day event in the Greywolf Elementary School gymnasium, 171 Carlsborg Road.
Model train layouts will be featured and numerous hobby items will be on sale as the show continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. Admission and parking are free.
“We’re already talking about finding a larger facility for next year’s show,” event co-organizer Bob Nelson said. “We’ve had a marvelous turnout.”
