Brinnon levy appears head toward passage

BRINNON — The Brinnon School District two-year maintenance and operations levy appears headed toward passage, according to initial results released by the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office after polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Out of 949 ballots issued to Brinnon School District residents, 580 were counted, with 373 (64.42 percent) voting “yes” and 206 (35.58 percent) voting “no.” There was one under vote, meaning it was unmarked.

A supermajority of 60 percent is required for the levy to pass.

It would take 42 “no” votes with no more yes votes to drop the approval rate below 60 percent.

Turnout so far is at 61.1 percent.

“I would like to thank the voters who came out and supported the school,” said Brinnon School District Superintendent Robert Garrison.

“The school is an integral part of the community, and the program would be pretty decimated without the levy.

“So there was a lot of anxiety before the vote. I expect it to be a jovial time around the school tomorrow.”
