PORT ANGELES — Registrations are due by Jan. 5 for a Washington State Conservation Commission gathering in Port Angeles on Thursday, Jan. 15.
The commission will meet at the Olympic Lodge, 140 Del Guzzi Drive, at 8:30 a.m.
The Clallam Conservation District will conduct at tour at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, followed by dinner at The Cedars at Dungeness, 1965 Woodcock Road, in Sequim at about 5:45 p.m.
Dinner will be $28. It can be paid in cash or with a check made out to the Clallam Conservation District.
The tour will showcase a small cross-section of conservation projects the state conservation commission has undertaken, along with the Elwha River dam removal project.

Makah poet reads
PORT ANGELES — Makah poet John Pritchard III will read during his book launch at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, 401 E. First St., at 7 p.m. Monday.
Pritchard’s WOLF: We Only Love Freedom was published in December with support from the Bill Hennessey Native Bridges Fund and the Peninsula College Foundation.
Proceeds from the sales of the book will support Pritchard’s study abroad opportunity in Florence, Italy in the spring.
The book will be available for $10 at the reading or $12.99 through Amazon.com.

Senior meals scheduled for next week
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Senior Nutrition Site dinners will be served at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at the Port Angeles Senior Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
A suggested donation is $5 for those who are 60 or older.
People younger than 60 can attend for $8.

Book discussion
SEQUIM — A book discussion group will talk about One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Márquez at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10.
One Hundred Years of Solitude tells the story of the rise and fall, birth and death of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family.
Copies of the books are available at the library in various formats, including regular print and audiobook on CD.

Garden club Jan. 5
SEQUIM — The Sequim Prairie Garden Club will kick off the new year with its monthly meeting at the clubhouse in Pioneer Memorial Park, 387 E. Washington St., at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 5.
The meeting begins with a presentation by Master Gardener Bill Wrobel titled “Tools of the Trade: Special Tools for Gardeners with Physical Challenges.”
The public is welcome.
A brown bag lunch follows the presentation, with coffee and desserts provided by hostesses Barbara Fitzgerald, Sarah Myers and Diane Lindsay.
