Sunshine peaked through fluffy clouds Saturday after a week of polluted air and white-out skies.
People who dared not venture outside into air rated as “hazardous” because of smoke from wildfires to the south and east were able to take hikes, mow their lawns and enjoy their patios.
The air quality in Clallam and Jefferson counties was in the green — a rating of good — on the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency website at orcaa.org Saturday morning after drifting between that rating and moderate Friday.
Air quality alerts from the National Weather Service in Seattle have ended
“A weather system with rain and light onshore flow has improved the air quality significantly overnight,” the office said in an email Saturday.
It looks like clean air is here to stay, at least for the next fortnight, if nothing changes, according to meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch.
He said the forecast is for seven to 10 days of winds off the Pacific Ocean rather than from the south, “so we’ll have cleaner air.”
If weather patterns change, then skies could grow smoky again from the wildfires still burning in Oregon and California.
