Baby from Port Townsend dies in Seattle; baby-sitter, 13, jailed

A 19-month-old baby from Port Townsend died in West Seattle after being rushed to Harborview Medical Center.

Seattle police on Monday said the 13-year-old baby-sitter — a friend of the Port Townsend mother who was attending a family gathering in West Seattle — admitted that she hurt the child.

The teen was asked to watch two children, the baby and a 5-year-old sibling, the Peninsula Daily News’ news partner, KOMO-TV, reported.

The baby’s mother and boyfriend were visiting from Port Townsend, both Seattle and Port Townsend police said Monday. Neither agency identified the mother or victim.

The baby-sitter was booked into a King County juvenile detention facility for investigation of homicide.
