Annual Harvest of Hope reaps $115,000 for Olympic Medical Center expansion

SEQUIM — The Olympic Medical Center Foundation raised $115,000 at its 16th annual Harvest of Hope dinner.

Most of the funds from the dinner, held Oct. 13 at the Guy Cole Convention Center in Sequim, will go toward purchasing equipment for the expansion of the OMC Cancer Center in Sequim.

Attendees also contributed $30,000 to fund the Cancer Center’s Patient Navigator program that provides basic living expenses for low-income cancer patients.

The evening featured food prepared by chef Kathryn Kitts from The Sweet Beginning Café in Sequim and wine from Harbinger Winery of Port Angeles.

The foundation also presented the Rick Kaps Award to long-time Foundation and OMC Cancer Center donors and supporters George and Barbara Brown and Phil and Linda Walker of Sequim.

The Kaps Award — named after the former Sequim High School basketball coach and educator who died of cancer — is presented annually to an organization or individual who has contributed to cancer and overall health care on the North Olympic Peninsula.

To date, the OMC Foundation has generated over $1.1 million as part of its capital campaign to raise money for the expansion project.

“OMC and the foundation are thankful for all of the support that they have received from over 350 donors who have contributed toward this effort,” said Bruce Skinner, foundation executive director.

Those interested in more information or in making a donation can call the OMC Foundation office at 360-417-7144, or email bruce@omhf.org.
