PORT ANGELES — It’s time to throw the junk out.
On Sunday, those hard-to-dispose-of items such as refrigerators and tires can be taken to the Regional Transfer Station at 3501 W. 18th St., Port Angeles, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Residents are invited to recycle refrigerators, tires, yard waste and any and all metal junk in the annual Benefit Dump Day.
The cost is $10 per truckload and proceeds will go to the Port Angeles Food Bank, said Helen Freilich, city’s waste reduction specialist.
Last year, the event netted 223 tons, Freilich said, including 84 refrigerators and 415 tires.
The big dump day gives people the chance to unload one truckload per household.
Loads are limited to one per household . No commercial loads or vehicles will be accepted.
The loads can be no greater than a ¾-ton truck or a 5-foot-by-8-foot trailer.
Tires, metals, and yard waste must be separated for recycling, and there is a limit of up to four tires and four appliances per household.
