SEQUIM – The animal lovers famous – or infamous – for nude calendars has come up with another fundraising idea.
Peninsula Friends of the Animals, the group that brought you “Cats ‘n’ Dogs . . . and Artists, Too” – a 2007 calendar with photos showing Peninsula residents with pets and without clothing – is now seeking original tales of pets and animal rescue for a book to be published early next year.
“The story can be about any kind of pet, any kind of animal,” said Susan Skaggs, coordinator of the project.
Skaggs also urges poets, artists and essayists to enter.
She hopes for cover art and illustrations to accompany the short stories, poems and nonfiction.
The deadline for entries is April 30.
The fee is $15 per submission.
Proceeds will benefit Peninsula Friends of the Animals, a six-year-old animal welfare organization based in Sequim.
Friends runs a no-kill shelter for cats, coordinates free or low-cost spaying and neutering, and provides emergency food and veterinary care for pets of low-income residents and telephone counseling for simple pet behavior problems.
Its long-range plans include an adoption shelter for dogs.
