PORT ANGELES — Port of Port Angeles officials could offer no information Monday on the origin of a diesel fuel spill that coated the west end of the Boat Haven marina Sunday.
Chuck Farris, harbormaster, said employees performed visual inspections of the docks and some of the marina’s boats and boat houses Monday, but found no source of the slick.
“Hopefully we’ll find out the source and put a stop to it,” he said.
Initial reports that as many as 100 gallons of diesel fuel might have entered the water were overestimates, Farris said.
“If it were 100 gallons, it would have been a heck of a mess,” he said.
Farris estimated the spill might have been no more than 5 gallons.
Crews from U.S. Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles contained the slick with booms Sunday afternoon.
Because it is too thin to recover, the diesel will be allowed to evaporate.
