PORT TOWNSEND — Port officials on Aug. 1 will open construction bids on a Point Hudson Marina renovation project estimated to cost $3.4 million.
The Port of Port Townsend commissioners are likely to award the contract shortly afterward so the project can start Sept. 20, as planned.
That schedule allows hundreds of annual Wooden Boat Festival participants to use the old marina one last time before it closes until early spring for reconstruction.
Legal notices on the bid were advertised Wednesday in Jefferson County and regional newspapers, including the PDN.
The notices state that the Port will accept bids until 2 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Port offices, 375 Hudson St., then Port officials will read them aloud. Bids received after 2 will be rejected.
Jim Pivarnik, Port deputy director, told the Port commissioners on Wednesday that project consultant Reid Middleton representatives believe that a number of bidders will come forward.
Dredging issues
The only hang-up is approval for dredging the marina and disposing of the dredge material offshore.
“We are waiting on the [Army] Corps of Engineers’ approval,” Pivarnik said, adding that he was confident it would be approved because dredge samples taken near the marina’s entrance “tested clean.”
The final design illustrated by Everett-based Reid Middleton shows special moorage for kayaks, and handicapped-access gangways at the north and south entries.
Also planned are 570 feet of moorage at a dock on southern side of the marina, and small- and up to 70-foot boat slips on the facility’s northern half.
